Out of Africa – An Arizona Photo Safari

Let’s face it, not many people can afford to go to Africa on a photography safari. Although we’re able to enjoy beautiful film documentaries and photographs on television or the Internet, that’s only vicariously living someone else’s dream. It’s satisfying to an extent, but it’s not a substitute for the personal experience of being up close to the animals.

Fortunately, there’s the next best thing to an African safari just north of Phoenix, Arizona. It’s called Out of Africa. Visiting Out of Africa is an outing you won’t forget, and it is a great place to take the kids or out of town visitors. If you’re a photographer, you’ll come away with a huge selection of photographs including: lions, tigers, mountain lions, zebras, bears, giraffes, iguanas, and numerous other species.

As the television commercials always say, “But wait, there’s more!” If you’re serious about your photography beyond the occasional snapshots and family poses, I urge you to look into a private, behind-the-scenes photography workshop hosted by Kathleen Reeder. Kathleen is a skilled photographer and has a year’s long association with the staff at Out of Africa.

Her tours are limited to 12 people and typically run about 8 hours. You’re taken into areas not open to the general public. Aboard a private shuttle that takes you from one environment to another, Kathleen shares her photography expertise as well as her knowledge of the individual animals. It’s a rewarding adventure for photographers, and much, much less expensive than booking an African safari.
