Beep, beep!

Roadrunners are fairly common in my area of north Scottsdale, Arizona, and this guy was pretty docile when I found him perched on a rock just 10 feet from my office window. I grabbed my camera, put on the Canon 100-400 zoom and quietly opened the door to get a clear view of him.  He stayed calm as I started shooting, and then slowly ambled across the driveway to some more rocks and plants. Finally, he just nestled into a low part of a boulder and posed for a few more before running across the “road” to a neighbor’s yard.

Normally, these birds are much more active. They trot along the ground at a brisk pace, pause and then scoot on to the next spot. They’re also much more aware around humans that this fellow. These are some of the best photos of a roadrunner I’ve ever gotten.
